After the passing of her husband, Akhila started living alternately with her two sons. Both sons resided in the same town but in different locations.
Gomathi, a Portrait of Peace:
Gomathi, Akhila’s daughter-in-law, was a virtuous woman who accepted and acted upon everything Akhila said. Gomathi had a daughter, but her sister, who was childless, was heartbroken over her situation. To console her, Gomathi gave her daughter to her sister to raise. One day, Akhila arranged a Sathurthi Bhajan at home. However, when her second son Mahesh fell ill, Akhila went to take care of him. Gomathi assured Akhila that she would manage everything in her absence, allowing Akhila to leave with peace of mind. To prepare for the Bhajan, Gomathi arranged all the necessary items. But due to relentless rain, the Bhajan couldn’t be held. Not wanting to waste the provisions, Gomathi prayed to the family deity, made offerings, and started a small idli shop right at her doorstep. The shop earned a good income, and she turned it into a business. Soon, she began offering mixed rice dishes in the afternoon and snacks in the evening. Unable to manage everything alone, she involved her husband in the business by asking him to quit his job. Together, they worked hard, earning a good income, and even renovated their house with their earnings.
These events kindled intense greed in Raji, inspiring her to compete in the same business.
Raji’s Greed:
Raji, Akhila’s second daughter-in-law, was extremely greedy and envious. She opened a food business of her own, aspiring to succeed like Gomathi. However, her business did only moderately well. To manage, she stored the unsold food in the refrigerator and reheated it for sale in the evening. Despite Akhila’s repeated warnings, Raji continued this practice.
Trouble from Spoiled Food:
Once, Raji forgot to refrigerate a batch of sambar she had taken out earlier. When it developed a slight odor in the evening, she added some jaggery, reheated it, and sold it. A mother purchased it and fed it to her child, who later fell ill. Furious, the child’s father stormed into Raji’s house and created a scene. From the next day onward, Raji shut down her shop and stayed home.
Around the same time, Mahesh lost his job and was stuck at home. Seizing the opportunity, Raji persuaded him to use his office severance pay to buy extravagant items for her food business, including a large refrigerator to keep food from spoiling. Unable to refuse her, Mahesh complied, as Raji would resort to loud arguments if her demands were unmet.
The Fall of Raji’s Business:
Raji expanded her shop and reopened with renewed enthusiasm. However, within a few days, a competing eatery opened nearby, causing her business to collapse.
With no job and no income from the food business, Raji and Mahesh faced severe hardships. The only solace was owning a house, which spared them the burden of rent. Still, frequent arguments broke out between the two. During one such argument, Mahesh collapsed and was rushed to the hospital. Doctors diagnosed him with a heart blockage that required surgery. Sankaran and his wife covered all medical expenses and brought Mahesh, Raji, and their child to live with them after the surgery.
Mahesh’s Return to Work:
Six months after the surgery, Mahesh regained his health and joined the office Sankaran had recommended.
Mahesh and Raji Return to Their Home:
With a stable income from his job, Mahesh and Raji returned to their own home. However, seeing the unused items Raji had hoarded, Akhila voiced her discontent. Realizing her mistakes, Raji apologized to both Mahesh and Akhila, promising never to repeat them.
Raji loaded all the items she had bought onto a cart and handed them over to Gomathi.
The Karmas of This Story:
In this story, the family was blessed by the favorable influence of the Moon’s karma. Because members of the family were born under the stars Bharani, Magham, Kettai, and Uttirattadhi, they thrived when they began a small-scale food business.
However, Raji lacked the Moon’s positive influence and was instead affected by the malefic vibrations of Rahu’s karma. This fueled her greed and envy. Eventually, realizing her mistakes, Raji apologized to her husband and mother-in-law and began living a reformed life.
Thank you.
