After the marriage, as Valliyammai was about to leave for her husband’s home, her mother advised her, “You must take good care of your mother-in-law and father-in-law. You should treat your husband’s relatives with love and always remain in devotion to God. Along with that, you must constantly meditate on God’s name at all times.” When Valliyammai asked, “Does that God know when we do all this?” her mother replied, “Whatever you do, that God will know. This entire universe is that God Himself.” She added, “When you chant His name, that Almighty will stay right beside you and protect you.” Valliyammai firmly held on to this belief, and from that day onward, she continuously chanted the name of her beloved deity in her heart.

Valliyammai’s Daily Life

Valliyammai began her life at her husband’s home. Her life revolved around her husband, mother-in-law, and father-in-law. The family owned agricultural land, but it was barren and unsuitable for cultivation. As a result, her husband worked as a daily laborer in a garden to support the family.

Valliyammai also started going to work along with her husband. At that time, her mother-in-law said, “You don’t need to go to the garden to work; it’s enough if my son works.” Valliyammai replied, “As long as we are healthy, there is no harm in working. Once we have a child, we will need an income to raise it. That’s why I am also going to work,” and she began going to work.

Valliyammai would complete all the household chores she needed to do for her mother-in-law and father-in-law before leaving for work with her husband in the morning. For lunch, she would mix porridge with green chilies and onions, carry it in small hanging pots, and they would walk to the fields on foot to work.

A portion of their income was allocated for the medical expenses of Valliyammai’s parents, another portion was saved for raising the child they were expecting, and yet another portion was set aside for her husband’s sister, who was living in great hardship at her husband’s home. This was because, during her marriage, they had promised a certain amount of gold as dowry but were unable to fulfill it. Her husband considered it his responsibility and saved a part of their income for this purpose. Only the remaining amount was used for their daily living expenses.

The Visit of a Great Seer

One time, everyone in the village was talking about the arrival of a Great Seer. Valliyammai had a strong desire to see him, but she was pregnant at the time. She told her mother-in-law and father-in-law about her wish to visit the Great Seer. Her mother-in-law replied, “When you go to see children, the elderly, or saints, you should never go empty-handed.” Valliyammai responded, “I will take something with me.”

At that point, her mother-in-law asked how many days the Great Seer was going to stay there. Valliyammai replied that it was for three days. Her mother-in-law then advised, “Go on the third day instead of the first two days, as the crowd will be smaller then. That way, you won’t face any difficulties, and being pregnant, you can avoid getting caught in the crowd.” Following her advice, Valliyammai decided to visit on the third day.

The day she visited the Great Seer

Two days had passed since the arrival of the Great Seer. On the third day, Valliyammai and her husband left early in the morning for work. Determined to finish their tasks quickly and visit the Great Seer, they focused on their work. After a while, the owner of the garden arrived, and they told him, “Please allow us to leave by midday today, as we want to see the Great Seer.” The owner gave them their wages for the day and generously allowed them to leave. They were overjoyed.

Making a garland for the Great Seer

As Valliyammai thought about what to take while going to see the Great Seer, a pleasant fragrance wafted through her nose. She turned in the direction of the fragrance and saw a jasmine creeper spread across the thorny fence of the field. The creeper was full of blooming jasmine buds. She felt a strong desire to pluck those flowers and make a garland. She told her husband to wait for a little while, and he agreed. He too began helping her pluck the jasmine buds.

The buds were plucked, and Valliyammai collected all the plucked buds in the end of her saree. However, as the saree end was filled with buds, some of them spilled onto the ground. She carefully gathered the remaining buds, secured them properly, and left the spot.

To make the garland, Valliyammai took a banana stem, cleaned it, split it into thin strips, and sat under a tree to start threading the flowers. The garland she made turned out to be large and very beautiful. Carrying the garland, she prepared to leave. Her husband offered her the porridge he had brought, and after drinking it, they washed their faces, hands, and feet. Valliyammai adjusted her saree, carefully placed the garland on her saree’s upper end as one would cradle a baby, covered it neatly, and carried it securely as they set off.

Seeing the Great Seer

Both Valliyammai and her husband arrived at the place where the Great Elder was staying. The sight before her filled Valliyammai with deep pain and embarrassment. Everyone present had brought trays filled with fruits, flowers, sarees, and other offerings to receive the blessings of the Great Elder. Seeing this, Valliyammai thought to herself, “If we go to him with just this single garland, we might not be shown proper respect.” She decided not to proceed and pulled her husband aside, ensuring he too did not stand in the line. Standing off to the side, she gently took the garland in her right hand, held it behind her back, and grasped it tightly. Meanwhile, the Great Elder, who was observing everything with his inner vision, called two of his attendants and instructed them to discreetly bring the garland that the woman was holding in her hand. The two attendants approached Valliyammai and tried to take the garland, but she was holding it firmly. It seemed impossible for them to retrieve it. One of the attendants then silently meditated on the Great Elder and, after opening his eyes, attempted again. Valliyammai’s grip relaxed slightly, and they were able to take the garland with ease without her noticing. The garland was then brought to the Great Elder, who wore it with great joy.

The Great Seer asks her to raise her bowed head

Since Valliyammai and her husband were standing separately, an attendant approached them and instructed them to join the queue. With no other option, they joined the line. Valliyammai felt deeply embarrassed as the people ahead of and behind them were carrying trays full of offerings. She thought to herself, “Look at some of these people—they can’t even carry their offerings by themselves. What if someone hands their tray to me for a moment, asking me to hold it?” Even as this thought crossed her mind, she kept her hand behind her, holding onto the garland as if it was still there. Valliyammai walked in the queue with her head bowed, her husband following behind her. The line moved slowly. She deliberately avoided lifting her head, thinking, “If I look up, I might see someone laughing at us, and it will hurt me. It’s better not to look up.” Resolving this, she continued toward the Great Elder with her head bowed.

Unaware that she had already reached the Great Seer, Valliyammai stood there with her head still bent. The Great Elder said, “Lift your head; your neck will start hurting.” Valliyammai looked up and realized she was standing right before the Great Elder. Seeing him, she noticed the garland he was wearing and recognized it as her own. She immediately checked her hand, only to find it empty. Overcome with emotion, she began to cry. The Great Elder then spoke, revealing exactly what she had been thinking in her heart. Hearing this, Valliyammai admitted, “Yes, I thought just as you said. I worried whether you would accept the garland since it was the only offering I had brought.” The Great Elder smiled and said, “Whatever you offer with devotion, I will gladly accept. You brought this garland with love, faith, and great longing, and now I am wearing it with joy. Look, don’t I look beautiful in this garland?” Hearing this, Valliyammai’s heart was filled with happiness.

The Blessing of the Great Seer

The Great Seer called an attendant and instructed him to bring all the silk sarees placed in the trays meant for his blessings. The sarees were brought and neatly stacked on his lap. Next, he had the dhoti pieces from the trays also brought and placed on his lap. Then, he instructed the attendant to take a tray containing fruits, garlands, and all its contents and bring it over. The Great Seer placed all the fabric pieces from his lap into that tray, called Valliyammai and her husband closer, blessed them, and handed over the tray to them. They bowed to him respectfully and gratefully accepted the offerings.

At that moment, some of the people present looked pale with surprise. They thought to themselves, “We brought so many offerings for blessings, yet we were given only kumkum, a lemon, and holy water, while this woman who brought just a garland is receiving so much honor.” The Great Seer, aware of their thoughts, called one of the women and said, “This is what you were thinking, right?” The woman, startled, bowed to the Great Seer and said, “Forgive me, my wretched mind thought exactly that.” She prostrated before him. The Great Seer then said, “Remove the saree covering her wounds and see how much effort she put into making that garland.” When the saree was removed as instructed, everyone saw that Valliyammai’s stomach was covered with numerous thorn pricks, many of which had bled. The dried streaks of blood bore witness to the effort and devotion with which she had made the garland. The woman was deeply moved and said, “I am a doctor, and now I realize that this woman is none other than Goddess Kamakshi herself. The Goddess has personally made this garland for you.” The woman then added, “From today until she gives birth to her child, I will ensure her safety and well-being,” and again begged forgiveness from the Great Seer.

Taking Leave from the Great Seer

Valliyammai and her husband once again bowed to the Great Seer and took leave. At that moment, the Great Elder said, “You must continue your daily chanting of the divine name. That alone will protect your family and the child you are about to give birth to. It will serve as salvation for your entire household.” With these blessings, he sent them on their way.

The Female Doctor’s Help for Valliyammai

From the next day onwards, all the vegetables, fruits, and food supplies needed for Valliyammai’s household were delivered directly to her home through the female doctor. Valliyammai stopped going to the fields with her husband and took complete rest at home. When the time for her delivery approached, the doctor admitted her to the hospital and provided her with medical care. Valliyammai gave birth to a beautiful baby boy. After a short stay at the hospital to recover her health, the doctor personally brought Valliyammai back home and safely reunited her with her husband.

Valliyammai Seeing the Great Seer Again

The very next day after returning home with her baby, Valliyammai felt a strong desire to visit the Great Seer. However, she had no means to travel from her place to Kanchipuram. Just as this thought crossed her mind, a car stopped at her doorstep. When she went outside to see, it was the same doctor. The doctor said, “You wished to go to Kanchipuram, didn’t you? The Great Elder has sent for you.” Valliyammai was deeply moved. She traveled with her husband and baby in the doctor’s car to meet the Great Elder. Upon arriving, she showed her baby to the Great Elder and received his blessings. The Great Elder blessed her, saying, “You will live happily and healthily with your family.” He further advised, “Always continue chanting the divine name.” The GreatSeer also appreciated the doctor’s service, expressing his joy and blessing her for her selfless efforts.

The Karmas of This Story

In this story, Valliyammai’s mother was blessed with the positive vibrations of Chandra Karma, which made her loving and affectionate towards her daughter. These qualities were passed on to Valliyammai through her upbringing. Additionally, the presence of the auspicious vibrations of Guru Karma in the family brought Valliyammai the understanding of the glory of chanting the divine name and the guidance to continue it consistently.

In her husband’s household, the negative vibrations of Sevvai Karma (Mars Karma) were present, which caused their land to remain barren and unproductive.

The positive vibrations of Sani Karma (Saturn Karma) in the family enabled them to rely solely on hard work for their livelihood. Without losing hope, they dedicated themselves to their labor, and the income earned through their efforts allowed the family to live peacefully and contentedly.

When Valliyammai offered the garland to the Great Seer and he adorned it, she was blessed with the positive vibrations of Sukra Karma (Venus Karma). These vibrations transformed her life, bringing her prosperity. Until then, she had been wearing a saree with torn edges, but from that moment, she received sarees, garlands, fruits, and all forms of wealth as blessings. Sukra Karma bestowed its positive influence upon her.

Since both Valliyammai and her husband worked honestly and fulfilled their duties diligently, the positive vibrations of Surya Karma (Sun Karma) emerged in their family. This influence manifested when a doctor took complete responsibility for Valliyammai’s prenatal care, ensured a safe delivery, and brought her back home securely after the childbirth.

The family was also blessed with the positive vibrations of Guru Karma (Jupiter Karma). This is why Valliyammai was blessed with the gift of a child soon after her marriage. Additionally, the moment Valliyammai wished to see the Great Seer, he appeared in the doctor’s thoughts, prompting her to bring Valliyammai to him and enable her to receive his blessings.

Chanting the divine name ensures a person lives with all wealth, health, and happiness. Therefore, every individual in this world should constantly chant the name of their chosen deity in their mind. When done so, all prosperity will come to them effortlessly. Thank you.
